Horse Grooming Tips

Horse Grooming Tips For Every Horse Owner

  • Grooming Tip No.1:

    Hoof Care:

Less is more! Hoof oil or daily soaking of the hoofs is unnessesary. It will do more harm than good.

People always talk about softening the hoof.

The hoof horn is not meant to be soft! One of the functions of the hoof wall is protection! A soft hoof wall can“t protect the foot within.

The oil also seals anaerobic bacteria into the horn tubules, giving them a nice comfi home!

The moisture in the hoof comes from within.

Making sure that your horse is well hydrated is one of the best things you can do for your horses feet.

Incorporate some salt into his diet. This will help to regulate his sense of thirst and make him drink enough water.

Pick your horses feet daily. Use a wire brush to remove exfoliation (dead horn). it would only serve as nutrients for bacteria and fungi.

Use a non-necrotizing hoof-desinfectant. Spray the solar aspect of the foot twice a week to prevent infection.

  • Grooming Tip No.2:

Use water with a bit of vinegar
and a sponge to to wash off sweat after hard work. This will have a nice cooling effect!

  • Grooming Tip No.3:

    Always dry the fetlock area
with a towel after washing your horses legs. This will help in preventing mud fever.
