Horse Grooming
Much more than just cleaning your horse

Horse grooming is much more than just cleaning your horse.

  • it increases blood circulation
  • it is like a massage for your horse
  • it improves coat condition

On top of that it enhances the bond with your horse.

Particularly for young horses grooming is an important part of their training. They have to learn to stand still, be tied up, lift their feet, etc.

  • Pick out your horses feet every day. A hoof pick with a brush is a very useful tool.

  • Brush areas that are covered by the saddle, girth or bridle with extra care. Sand and dirt can cause rubbing and lead to skin injuries.

  • DonĀ“t overdo brushing of horses that are turned out.

Too much brushing, particularly with a soft brush removes too much oil out of their coat. The oil protects them against rain and makes the coat nearly water repellant.

  • Avoid shampooing horses. This will also remove the oil out of their coat.
